Our cattle are part of our family and we have a passion for their health and for their genetics.

Roman Road Speckles

Our cattle journey began in September 2021 when we purchased our first stud starter herd: four fine ladies and a happy bull.  With no experience but a keen desire, we carefully selected the animals we were interested in from the Kamarah Speckle Park catalogue and attended the auction in Wannamal.  With no real cattle experience but fuelled with a lot of passion and bravado, Liza boldly bid in a very competitive auction, proudly getting all five animals that were on Ian's list.  These animals (Rouge, Rinky Dink, Roseanna, Royal Lady and Real Deal) were the beginning of a very special time for us at Roman Road Estate.

With the passion well and truly lit, Ian then went on to expand the stud herd in March 2022 by acquiring another five ladies and a bull from JAD Speckle Park in New South Wales.  Ian had been madly studying the genetics and breed lines that he wanted so we were very excited to welcome our new ladies: Zahrah, Miss Sage, Midnight Lady, Amy and Young Lady who all came to us "in calf", and also the big fella: Ritualistic who was a prize of the auction.

Around that same time, we purchased a small herd of gentle Murray Grey females as our commercial herd.  We mated all the ladies with our stud bull Real Deal.

Later in 2022, we were the proud parents of eight calves being our T Drops: Tiffany, Treasure, Titan, Trinity, Texan, Tahlia, Trooper and Tilly.  This was truly a wonderful time with many hours passed just sitting in the fields waiting for action or just staring in awe at the beautiful calves.

Again Ian found the need to add to his herd, and in 2023 we welcomed Stryker, Serenity and Strawberry to our happy herd from the Gin Gin Speckle Park family. We only had one stud calf born in 2023: our gorgeous Unity who was a beautiful surprise as she was born on 1 April 2023 - our wedding day.  In addition, we welcomed our first six robust Murray Grey crosses in the commercial herd in 2023.

We rested the majority of the stud ladies in 2023 so that we could bring the breed cycles back into line for April drops to meet our feed and weather conditions.  Then in 2024, we welcomed an amazing V Drop:  six heifers and four bulls.  We had such fun picking "V" names that we think suited our progeny.  Introducing the girls: Venus, Vera, Valerie, Violet, Vespa and Victoria - and the boys: Voodoo, Vaux, Volt and Versace.  In addition, we welcomed eight male Murray Grey first crosses which included a gorgeous set of twins.

We are so looking forward to our W Drop calving which is due to commence in April 2025.

Life is always fun on the farm with our big family members, whether its feeding, weighing, calving, breed plans or paddock changes - they all have their own personalities but we know they will do anything we want for a bucket of nuts.
